Release notes

   * First public release, 20th March, 2009

System requirements

In order to open the pdf-file, you need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your system. Adobe Acrobat Reader is available for most operating systems. You can download Adobe Acrobat Reader free of charge by clicking on the button below:

It is recommended that you update your Acrobat Reader to the latest version. As of Acrobat Reader version 8, hardware accelerated drawing is introduced in the software which will speed up rendering of the diagram. Acrobat Reader prior to version 6 does not support layers, therefore it cannot display the diagram properly. Also see the Problem Solving part of the manual, if any problem occurs.

Remember

When using the diagram it is important to be aware of its limitations. For example, minor differences between rat strains or gender have been reported which were not taken into account. More importantly, it should be noted that unlike their natural occurrence, all connections in the diagram appear to be of equal strength, since no objective measure exists to express their relative importance. Lastly, because of the tracing methodology (see box 1 of the Nature Reviews Neuroscience Review), the diagram does not distinguish between excitatory, inhibitory or modulatory connections.

Since our diagram contains aggregated information, it is strongly advisable to look up the original references in the reference lookup table on this website. Unfortunately, we cannot redistribute original articles due to copyright restrictions.
